As mulheres tiveram e continuam a ter um papel fundamental na historia da veneração ao Sr. Santo Cristo. Tudo começou com a fé e dedicação de uma mulher – a Madre Teresa – jovem do concelho da Ribeira Grande que ao retirar a imagem e a devoção ao ECCE HOMO do esquecimento trazia para além mundo este culto religioso. E um dos casos aconteceu na cidade de Toronto, onde as festas decorreram no passado fim-de-semana na Igreja de Santa Maria.

It all started with the faith and devotion of one young woman - Mother Teresa D`Anunciada - the young nun from the municipality of Ribeira Grande, ialand of S. Miguel Azores, who took her devotion to the ECCE HOMO to new heights.
Women
With immigration from S. Miguel this religious devotion became part of the community. Every year Santo Cristo is celebrated u«in May at the Church of Santa Maria.
